NEW YORK, July 23 — Ashton Kutcher, Jared Leto, Neil Patrick Harris and Kate Upton are some of the celebrities on social media opposing a proposed bill to cap the growth of Uber by New York City mayor Bill de Blasio.

Actor Ashton Kutcher weighed in on the topic by sharing a series of tweets, including one that said, “The residents of New York need access to affordable and reliable transportation.”

He also slammed the new bill by tweeting, “Proposed bill will result in longer wait times, higher prices, and less reliable service for riders.”

Actress Kate Upton also sided with Uber in a tweet: “@BilldeBlasio Why do you want to return to days when only those in Midtown & Lower Manhattan could get a ride?”

Neil Patrick Harris pointed out that the current demand outstripped the supply of cars for hire if Uber is capped, “25K new residents use @Uber_NYC each week. How is a fixed # of cars supposed to serve this demand for rides?”

Meanwhile, Jared Leto took the fight to the mayor himself with this tweet: “Hey @BilldeBlasio - where is the forward thinking creative leader we all fell for? Don't. Kill. Progress.”

According to New York Daily News, De Blasio has said he supports the bill that would limit Uber’s growth for a year, pointing out that there is a need for the city to study the company’s impact on traffic congestion.

New York’s City Council is expected to vote on the bill limiting the growth of Uber and other for-hire car services to 1 per cent in order for the city to study traffic and air quality.
