Malaysian singer Penny Tai’s band wins two awards at GMA (VIDEO)

TAIPEI, July 3 — Renowned Mandapop singer from Malaysia Penny Tai has made the nation proud as her band Buddha Jump won two awards at the 26th Golden Melody Awards (GMA) in Taiwan last Saturday.

The indie pop rock band which is fronted by the 37-year-old Johorean singer — won the awards for Best Music Arrangement and Best Band awards for their album “Let You See” at the annual music awards which is said to be the Taiwanese equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

“The win came as a big surprise, we didn’t expect it at all. When our band name was announced, we just could not believe our ears. This win is huge to us and it really helps in pushing us to continue to grow further in the music industry,” the lead singer said as quoted by New Straits Times.

Tai formed Buddha Jump with D-Power in 2011 and the band released their first self-titled album, “Buddha Jump”.

Tai also won two GMA awards last year — Best Female Singer and Best Producer awards — for her 11th album, “Unexpected”. — TheHive.Asia
