LONDON, June 29 — Jeremy Clarkson sent out a tweet yesterday, apologising that his time on the show had concluded in the manner in which it had.
The apology came after his final appearance on “Top Gear” aired yesterday, which also coincided with the popular series’ season finale.
The Hollywood Reporter said the episode saw a sharp dip in viewership numbers, drawing 5.3 million viewers in the UK, which was a 23.1 per cent share, but still the lowest figures of the season for “Top Gear”.
The entertainment website noted, however, that yesterday’s episode fell significantly below the show’s 2007 all-time peak audience of 7.96 million.
Last month, the BBC announced that TV and radio personality Chris Evans would replace Clarkson as host of what it hopes to be a revitalised “Top Gear”, due to air next year.
Yesterday’s episode was also the last for co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May.
