LOS ANGELES, June 9 ― Netflix has just taken things to a whole new level by acquiring distribution rights to “War Machine”, the David Michod-directed drama which will star Brad Pitt as a four-star rock star US military general.

“War Machine” will be available to Netflix subscribers and in selected cinemas next year. The movie is based on Michael Hastings’ bestselling book “The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan”.

News reports have indicated this is a high-profile part of the Netflix strategy to challenge traditional distribution models in movies as well as television. According to Deadline, this is Netflix’s biggest investment so far in film, in the range of US$30 million (RM108 million).

Principal photography for War Machine is set to begin in August.
