NEW YORK, April 8 — US actress Rooney Mara is joining Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel in the cast of “The Lion.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is to begin filming in Australia in mid-April after several weeks on location in India.

In addition to Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”), David Wenham (“Top of the Lake”) and Divian Ladwa (“Detectorists”) are joining the cast for the Australian shoot.

Based on the true story “A Long Way Home” by Saroo Brierley, the movie will tell the story of five-year-old Saroo, who gets lost far from his home in Northern India and winds up in Kolkata and finally in an orphanage, where he is adopted by an Australian couple. Later in life, he embarks on a journey to find his biological family.

The movie is being directed by Garth Davis (“Top of the Lake”). — AFP/Relaxnews
