LOS ANGELES, Feb 9 — Two of the most prominent actors of the moment are in talks to topline the sci-fi drama, which is to be directed by “The Imitation Game” helmer Morten Tyldum.
“Passengers” is a love story set on a spaceship traveling to colonize a new planet. When one of the passengers (Chris Pratt) is accidentally awoken 90 years early from his cryogenic sleep, he decides to wake another passenger (Jennifer Lawrence), with whom he falls in love.
Penned by Jon Spaihts, the writer of “Prometheus” and the upcoming “Dr. Strange” adaptation, “Passengers” has been in development for several years. Directors Gabriele Muccino (“The Pursuit of Happyness”) and Brian Kirk (“Game of Thrones,” “The Tudors”) were each attached at different times. Ultimately, the drama will be helmed by Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum, whose latest feature “The Imitation Game” is nominated for multiple Oscars.
In the past, Keanu Reeves, Reese Witherspoon and Rachel McAdams were all rumored to be attached to the lead roles. In negotiations now, Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence; two of the biggest box office stars of 2014, could make “Passengers” a very hot ticket if they are confirmed to star. — AFP-Relaxnews
