HOLLYWOOD, Jan 22 — The actor told USA Today he is “more than happy and excited” to return to the role that launched his career in the 1990s. That said, he is only on board if the new “X-Files” is a limited miniseries rather than a longer commitment.
Thirteen years after he last played the paranormal specialist and FBI agent Fox Mulder, David Duchovny is ready to reprise the role in a potential revival on Fox. But the actor who went on to headline “Californication” does have certain conditions. Namely, he is only interested in a limited run for the reboot.
“Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form,” he told USA Today, adding with a laugh: “We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season.”
Still, the news of his willingness to return is music to the ears of Fox Mulder fans. In this new adventure as in the 1998 and 2008 “X-Files” movies, Mulder will be joined by his sceptical partner Dana Scully, played as always by Gillian Anderson.
Now Fox has the challenge of finding a production timeline to suit both actors. Duchovny is currently tied to the new NBC series “Aquarius,” in which he plays a detective on the trail of Charles Manson in the 1960s. He is also set to publish his first novel, “Holy Cow,” on February 3.
Meanwhile, Anderson has commitments to two series: “Hannibal” stateside and “The Fall” in the UK. — AFP/Relaxnews
