LOS ANGELES, Jan 19 — The actress has joined “The Dive,” a feature to be directed by Francis Lawrence and produced by James Cameron.
“The Dive” will centre on the accomplished American free diver Francisco “Pipin” Ferraras and his French wife Audrey Mestre, also a champion free diver. Jennifer Lawrence will play Mestre, who died in 2002 while attempting to break her own record for diving without any external breathing apparatus.
Adapted from Ferraras’ book The Dive: A Story of Love and Obsession, the feature will be produced by James Cameron, who is already familiar with the story as he filmed a free dive carried out by Ferraras as a tribute to his late wife.
Cameron has explored his interest in the depths of the ocean in several movies, including “The Abyss” (1989), “Ghosts of the Abyss” (2003) and “Aliens of the Deep” (2005). The 2014 documentary “Deepsea Challenge 3D” shows another facet of Cameron’s passion for the deep, chronicling his expeditions aboard his personal submersible. — AFP-Relaxnews
