KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 25 — The controversial movie “The Interview” will not be shown in Malaysia despite it getting the green light to be shown in selected US cinemas, Sony Pictures Malaysia has confirmed.

In a report today, The Star daily cited a representative from the production company saying there had not been any plans to release the controversial comedy here.

This was even before cinemas in the US refused to screen the film following threats against Sony Pictures, purportedly by communist North Korea cyber-warriors.

The movie which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco depicts an assassination attempt on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Yesterday, after criticisms from US President Barack Obama as well as by the Hollywood community, Sony announced that the movie will be released in selected cinemas in the US today, as scheduled.

CNN reported that the studio also announced that the film will be available via on-demand services. Viewers are able to rent or buy the film from YouTube Movies, Google Play, Microsoft’s Xbox Video and via SeeTheInterview.com.
