KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — A drama and filem director and his company are seeking to suspend a High Court order compelling them to pay RM170,100 in compensation to comedian ‘Johan Raja Lawak’ and his wife.

Mohd Javed Mohd Nizar and his company, Juara Filem Production Sdn Bhd filed the application on Sept 17.

During mention of the application in chambers today, Senior Assistant Registrar Ti Pei Si set Sept 26 for case management, Johan’s lawyer Suhaimi Saad told reporters when approached.

The applicants were represented by counsel Baljit Singh.

Suhaimi said the applicants’ appeal against the ruling made by High Court Judge Datuk Su Geok Yiam on July 7, pertaining to Johan’s civil suit would be heard by the Court of Appeal on Thursday.

Johan, whose real name is Mohammad Yazid Lim Mohamad Aziz, 29, and his wife Rozlinawaty Ismail, or Ozlynn Wati, 32, filed a RM1 million compensation suit against the applicants on July 18, 2010.

He had alleged that during a meeting with Mohd Javed at a restaurant in Sikamat, Seremban on May 11, 2010, the latter hurled a glass at him, which hit his forehead.

Johan had also claimed that he sustained an injury under his right eye after being punched by ‘Halim’, a crewmember of the production company.

The comedian, who is also a presenter, had alleged that Mohd Javed and Halim continued to hit and kick him. He further alleged that they also hit his wife when she tried to stop them. — Bernama
