LOS ANGELES, June 30 — This weekend, Universal revealed the trailer for “Dracula Untold,” slated for release in the US on October 17.
“To fight evil, a hero will turn to darkness,” informs the tagline of the new “Dracula Untold” trailer. The feature, a Count Dracula origin story, depicts how Vlad Tepes was compelled to become a vampire in order to protect his family from a Turkish sultan.
With its epic battle scenes and special effects, “Dracula Untold” is positioned as an action blockbuster, contrasting with the more subtle “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and released in 1993.
The new action movie is the feature debut of director Gary Shore. The cast is led by Alex Evans (“Fast & Furious 6,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”) in the title role and co-stars Sarah Gadon (“A Dangerous Method,” “Maps to the Stars”), Dominic Cooper (“Need for Speed,” “Captain America”) and Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister in “Game of Thrones”).
