‘Mandela’ star Idris Elba sits in the director’s chair (VIDEO)

LONDON, May 29 — Idris Elba, the man who portrayed Nelson Mandela in the Oscar nominated movie ‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ has now stepped behind the camera to make his directorial debut.

Elba wrote and directed a six minute music video for DJ R3HAB, as part of a collection of 11 songs, all accompanied by short films, for the album ‘Beats of the Beautiful Game’, which celebrates football.

Elba’s short film, called ‘Unstoppable’ takes a look at international football during the ‘70s.

Idris has said that ”everybody loves sport, everybody loves competition, but when your country is playing against another country it’s the one time that everyone sits in the stands and is unified. It definitely brings people together.”

When he first heard the song, he explained that what he liked most was the idea of ”being unstoppable… it’s self belief, it’s someone that just says ‘Guess what? I can do anything I want to do’.”
