LOS ANGELES, Jan 9 — Scottish film star Gerard Butler is to take on the role of Bodhi, Patrick Swayze’s character from the original “Point Break” which was released in 1991.

Made famous for his turn in “300” (2007), Butler has committed to a remake of the adrenaline-chasing classic, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

At 44 years of age, the actor will become the face of a charismatic boss in charge of a criminal gang of extreme sports enthusiasts.

Just as in the original, he’ll be tailed by a young FBI agent who becomes part of the group, a role filled by Keanu Reeves in the original film directed by Katherine Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker,” “Zero Dark Thirty”).

By contrast, the upcoming revision is written by Kurt Wimmer, whose most recent work includes both the 2012 “Total Recall” remake as well as Angelina Jolie’s “Salt” and its upcoming sequel, while in the director’s seat is Ericson Core, director of photography on “The Fast and the Furious,” “Daredevil” and “Invincible.” — AFP/Relaxnews
