LONDON, Dec 15 — Christina Wood and Cicely Goulder are Kaleida, a London-based electronic duo whose debut track, “Think,” has been on Soundcloud since November. That minimalistic synth track was followed by the just-released “Tropea,” and an EP is coming in early 2014.

Who?

Wood and Goulder were introduced when Wood was working in Indonesia as a rainforest policy consultant and recording bedroom demos in her spare time, while in London, Goulder, a pianist, was beginning to experiment with electronic music. With Wood on vocals and Goulder on keys and production, the two bring a mutual appreciation for all things Nordic to their catchy synth pop.

Why the buzz?

Bloggers praise Wood’s voice, which Hillydilly called “one of the great revelations of 2013” and Earmilk says “has the same captivating tone and quality that seems exclusive to Nordic icons like Björk or Karin Dreijer Andersson of Fever Ray and The Knife.” Goulder’s sparse synth production also earns accolades. The Music Ninja praises the duo’s “deconstructed synths and lucid lyrics,” the “simplicity of Cicely’s keys and production” and the “remarkable crisp resonance in Christina’s vocals.”

Reviewing “Tropea,” The 405 noted its “cut glass vocals, funky synth bass” and “stomping beat,” calling the track “a classily understated success” and “the stuff chilled parties dream of.” Pigeons and Planes praises the track for “deftly toeing the line between retro-leaning synth-pop influences and modern sheen.”

What to listen to?
