'Thor' still reigns atop worldwide box office

LOS ANGELES, Nov 18 — Marvel's sequel focusing on the Nordic deity ranked first at the international box office for the third consecutive weekend, taking in revenues of US$90.95 million (RM289.7 million) during the weekend ending November 17, according to Rentrak.

Since its release, “Thor: The Dark World” has earned a total of US$479.77 million, already placing it as the tenth most lucrative film of the year, between “Oz: The Great and Powerful” and “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

In second place is “The Best Man Holiday,” a Christmas-themed comedy that achieved revenues of US$30.59 miillion in North America alone.

Meanwhile, “Gravity” is still hanging on in third place. The space drama headlined by Sandra Bullock took in US$24.78 million in global revenues over the weekend ending November 17, for a total of US$514.86 million worldwide in revenues since its release. The Alfonso Cuaron feature ranks just ahead of “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa” and “Captain Phillips” in fourth and fifth place respectively. — AFP-Relaxnews
