LOS ANGELES, Oct 7 ― Singer Lauryn Hill is in the Hype Machine’s most blogged artists chart today, October 7, having dropped a new track on the eve of her release from prison. The LA trio Haim is also back in the chart.

Hill’s new track, “Consumerism,” is “part of some material I was trying to finish before I had to come in,” explains the artist, referring to her prison sentence for a tax-related charge. It is the first in a series of tracks called “Letters from Exile.”

“Using as many ‘isms’ as she can find in the dictionary during the nearly five minute long track, she shows that she hasn’t lost her flow while a drum sampled mix plays in the backdrop,” writes The Music Ninja. Different Kitchen admits the track is “a tad sloppy and unfinished sounding” while Deadly Music writes: “Who are we to comment on Lauryn Hill. Anger. Truth. Revolution. Genius.”

Haim, a trio of three sisters from Los Angeles, is a frequent entry on the Hype Machine. The sisters have just released a new track, “Edge,” that features on the deluxe edition of their album “Days Are Gone.” The track was posted to Soundcloud by George Lewis, Jr. aka Twin Shadow, who co-wrote it.

“'Edge’ is another glorious showcase of Haim's feel-good sound, with Twin Shadow’s synth-pop influence building on the sisters free wheeling indie meets R&B flavour. The sisters can do no wrong,” writes Indie Shuffle. ― AFP-Relaxnews
