LOS ANGELES, Sept 10 — The American actor will join Shailene Woodley in the cast of “The Fault in Our Stars,” an adaptation of the 2012 John Green novel of the same name.
The announcement that Willem Dafoe will join the project came via the Twitter account of the film’s director, Josh Boone (@joshBooneMovies).
Published in 2012, “The Fault in Our Stars” focuses on Hazel Lancaster, a 16-year-old living with cancer, and Augustus Waters, another teen living with the disease, whom she meets at a support group.
Together, they become obsessed with a novel by Peter Van Houten about a young woman with cancer. More and more troubled by the similarities between her own life and that of the book’s character, Hazel hopes to travel to the Netherlands to meet the author.
Willem Dafoe will act alongside Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, who will play the two adolescents. Laura Dern (“Enlightened”) and Sam Trammell (“True Blood”) will play Hazel’s parents.
Josh Boone is currently shooting the film in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. — AFP-Relaxnews
