KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 ― Singapore today contributed 300 books on various topics related to the country to Malaysia's National Library, as part as the collaboration between libraries in Malaysia and Singapore.
The books with the titles span across topics on Singapore's architecture, biodiversity, economic development, history and literature were presented by Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia Vanu Gopala Menon to National Library Director-General Nafisah Ahmad.
Vanu Gopala said a solid cooperation between the libraries in both countries was crucial as it brought together people through the sharing of history, culture and shared memories via books and digital content.
"Libraries play an integral role in disseminating information about both countries as books are a platform that will help people of both nations to know each other's way of life better," he said during the 'Singapore 50: Gift of Books Ceremony', here.
This effort is in conjunction with Singapore's 50th National Day Celebration and the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Singapore.
Meanwhile, Nafisah said that the initiative taken by the National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore in contributing books on Singapore or by Singapore authors to the national library would further build deeper friendship and stronger understanding of these countries.
"The initiative taken by the NLB in promoting information on Singapore through this project will also complement the initiatives by the National Library of Malaysia towards promoting information on Asean Member States," she added.
To date the National Library has 3,517 books on and about Singapore in its collection. ― Bernama
