Bursa Malaysia remains higher at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 ― Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-afternoon today, driven by persistent buying in selected heavyweights, amid mixed sentiment on regional bourses, dealers said.

At 3.08pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 5.14 points to 1,462.14 from 1,457.0 at yesterday’s close.

On the broader market, gainers led losers 514 to 349, while 409 counters were unchanged, 1,068 untraded and 13 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.86 billion units worth RM1.30 billion.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank and Tenaga Nasional gained 5.0 sen each to RM9.05 and RM9.85, respectively, while Public Bank and CIMB climbed 4.0 sen each to RM4.19 and RM5.69, respectively, and Petronas Chemicals was flat at RM6.83.

Among the actives, Classita and Iris Corp both slipped 1.0 sen to 7.5 sen, Glostrext went up 8.5 sen to 27.5 sen, and MMAG was flat at 1.0 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 48.62 points better at 10,761.03, the FBMT 100 Index perked 44.15 points to 10,444.40, the FBM 70 Index improved 91.40 points to 14,155.61, the FBM Emas Shariah Index advanced 34.47 points to 10,970.50, and the FBM ACE Index added 2.97 points to 5,328.29.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index jumped 97.67 points to 16,404.54, the Plantation Index decreased 27.64 points to 7,046.38, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.99 of-a-point to 168.45, and the Energy Index increased 2.86 points to 836.97. ― Bernama
