LABUAN, June 18 — Malaysia’s renowned maritime industry player Datuk Seri Patrick Tiong has been appointed as an honorary life patron of Labuan Chamber of Commerce (LCC).
The appointment was unanimously agreed by LCC’s leadership line-up and committee members at its first annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday.
LCC chairman Daniel Doughty said the appointment was after considering Tiong’s leadership and years of experience in leading successful business establishments.
"Tiong has been working within the maritime-related industry for more than four decades and represents a broad spectrum of the maritime industry.
"From transportation, logistics to port management and ship-to-ship cargo transfer, all these have won him the respect based on his successes and professionalism, and we anticipate a record turnout for out chamber,” Doughty told Bernama today.
Doughty said Tiong’s exceptional track record in the business world, coupled with his immense contribution to the economic development of Labuan, made him the ideal candidate for this role.
"As a highly regarded figure within the industry Patrick Tiong brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and influential networks that will further elevate the Labuan chamber’s initiatives.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Tiong shared his enthusiasm and commitment towards advancing the Labuan chamber’s mission of fostering economic growth, entrepreneurship and sustainable development in the region.
"It is an honour to receive the appointment as honorary life patron... I am looking forward to working closely with the chamber’s leadership, members and stakeholders to promote a thriving business environment in Labuan and enhance the competitiveness of our local industries,” he said.
Looking ahead, Doughty said the LCC remains committed to its core objectives of driving economic progress, fostering innovation and advocating for the interests of Labuan’s business community.
