KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — Bursa Malaysia recorded an operating revenue of RM279 million for the first half of 2018 which was its highest since listing in 2005.

"Notwithstanding the various global and local events which have impacted emerging markets across the globe, Bursa Malaysia has delivered a commendable performance, achieving its highest ever half year operating revenue and highest Average Daily Trading Value (ADTV) for Securities on market trades (OMT) of RM2.7 billion, since listing in 2005,” said Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan, chief executive of Bursa Malaysia in a briefing today.

The bourse also declared an interim dividend of 14 sen and a special dividend for the financial year ended December 31, 2018.

Bursa Malaysia recorded a Profit After Tax and Minority Interest (PATAMI) of RM122 million, an increase of 5 per cent compared to the previous corresponding period.

Meanwhile, Earnings Per Share (EPS) rose to 15.1 sen in comparison with the previous corresponding period of 14.4 sen.

When asked about his tenure at Bursa Malaysia, Tajuddin said it was ‘business as usual’ at the stock exchange.

After the Pakatan Harapan government took power after the May election, many heads of GLC’s were replaced or removed.

He reiterated that he will serve until his contract expires in March 2019 and will leave his fate after that to the powers that be.

He also said Bursa had conducted its succession planning and suitable candidates were identified to fill vacancies if they should arise.

On another matter, he condemned the perpetrators of an acid attack on a Bursa staff on July 11. He said that they should face the full brunt of the law.
