KL shares turn mixed at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Bursa Malaysia turns mixed at mid-morning as losses in small-cap stocks were offset by gains in key heavyweights.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) increased 0.84 of-a-point to 1,765.73 from yesterday’s close of 1,764.89.

At 9 am, the index opened 0.5 of-a-point lower at 1,764.39.

On the broader market, losers led gainers 466 to 208, while 361 counters were unchanged, 738 untraded and 42 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.06 billion shares worth RM485.44 million.

Among heavyweights, Public Bank and Petronas Chemicals added six sen each to RM20.08 and RM7.31, respectively, TNB rose eight sen to RM13.80 and Sime Darby increased one sen to RM9.34.

Of actives, Hibiscus Petroleum added 6.5 sen to 47.5 sen, Luster Industries lost 1.5 sen to 12 sen while Netx Holdings and Borneo Oil were both flat at six sen and 13 sen, respectively.

The FBM Emas Index was 12.27 points lower at 12,583.93, the FBMT 100 Index shed 9.86 points to 12,223.29 but the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 6.66 points to 12,856.19.

The FBM 70 declined 70.95 points to 14,962.46 and the FBM Ace fell 12.14  points to 6,255.94.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was down 31.09 points to 8,019.14, the Finance Index declined 22.36 points to 16,413.77 but the Industrial Index increased 19.58 points to 3,266.29.

Meanwhile, Stone Master Corporation Bhd’s shares were halted from trading as at 10.22 am and will resume trading from 11.22am onwards. — Bernama
