KL shares turn mixed at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Bursa Malaysia turned mixed at mid-afternoon today, as losses in small-cap stocks were offset by gains in key heavyweights.

At 3.02pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,764.95, up 0.05 of-a-point from yesterday’s close of 1,764.89, after opening 0.5 of-a-point lower at 1,764.39 this morning.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 610 to 213 with 351 counters unchanged, 599 untraded and 42 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.73 billion shares worth RM1.1 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank declined three sen to RM9.37, while Public Bank added two sen to RM20.04 and TNB rose six sen to RM13.78, as Sime Darby gained one sen to RM9.34 and Petronas Chemicals was seven sen higher at RM7.32.

Of actives, Hibiscus Petroleum inched up six sen to 47 sen, Luster Industries eased one sen to 12.5 sen and Asia Bioenergy gained half-a-sen to 6.5 sen. 

The FBM Emas Index was 22.8 points lower at 12,573.4 and the FBMT 100 Index shed 18.62 points to 12,214.53.But, the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 4.05 points better at 12,853.58.

The FBM Ace fell 26.82 points to 6,241.26 and the FBM 70 declined 94.2 points to 14,939.18.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was down 25.82 points to 8,024.41, the Finance Index declined 55.95 points to 16,380.18, while the Industrial Index gained 15.21 points to 3,261.92. – Bernama
