Bursa Malaysia remains higher at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-afternoon on continued buying support in most heavyweights led by Maybank, dealers said.    

At 3.02 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,777.90, up 11.34 points, from Tuesday’s close of 1,766.56.        

The index opened 9.73 points higher at 1,776.29.    

On the broader market, gainers outpaced decliners 552 to 314 with 400 counters unchanged, 484 untraded and 19 others suspended.    

Turnover stood at 2.35 billion shares worth RM2.03 billion.

A dealer said the performance of the benchmark index was also in tandem with regional peers after strong gains in oil prices.

Among heavyweights, Maybank improved one sen to RM9.37, TNB and Public Bank were each flat at RM13.90 and RM19.98 respectively, Sime Darby bagged three sen to RM9.34 and PChem rose 18 sen to RM7.34.

For the top gainers, BAT rose RM1.20 to RM46.22, PetGas increased 80 sen to RM19.30 and AEONCR improved 62 sen to RM18.04.

Of the actives, Netx and AirAsia X gained half-a-sen each to 10 sen and 50.5 sen, while IWCity was 7 sen firmer at RM1.68.

The FBM Emas Index surged 87.93 points to 12,733.30, FBMT 100 Index jumped 85.63 points to 12,363.42 and the FBM 70 Index was 131.64 points higher at 15,343.89.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 90.19 points to 13,085.69 and the FBM Ace rose 45.12 points to 6,368.60.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index advanced 100.24 points to 16,416.97, the Plantation Index added 19.13 points to 8,089.05 and the Industrial Index was 45.19 points better at 3,278.701. — Bernama
