LONDON, March 28 — With the symbols of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — a new British pound coin goes in to circulation today.

On the eve of the official triggering of the Brexit process — it’s a sign of national unity at a time when it’s in doubt.

But that’s not the reason for the new Royal Mint who’ve declared the coin "the most secure in the world.”

It’s estimated that one in every 30 pound coins in current circulation is a fake — these ones we’re told have a hidden security feature making it tough to counterfeit.

Now 12-sided it’s the first change to the shape since its introduction in 1983.

The old coins will no longer be legal tender after October 15.

Meaning thousands of vending machines, shopping carts — or anything else with a coin slot — will have six months to catch up. — Reuters
