Bursa Malaysia remains mixed at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 ― Bursa Malaysia remained mixed at mid-afternoon, in range bound trading, with buying sentiment affected by declining oil prices.

At 3.03pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.03 points better at 1,628.39 compared with last Friday's close of 1,627.26 points.     

It opened 1.89 points lower at 1,625.37.               

Market breadth was negative with decliners outweighing advancers 534 to 200, 296 counters were unchanged, 712 untraded and 80 others were suspended.   

Turnover stood at 835.39 million shares worth RM738.77 million.     

The market started the day on a negative note following the slide in oil prices ahead of the meeting by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries but the benchmark index edged up on continued buying support for index-linked counters.

Global benchmark Brent crude oil was down US$1.71 at US$47.24 a barrel while West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down US$46.06 at US$46.06 a barrel.

Among heavyweights, TNB shed four sen to RM14.16, Maybank slipped two sen to RM7.78, Public Bank added four sen to RM19.54, Sime Darby improved eight sen to RM8.18 while Petronas Chemicals was flat at RM6.79. 

Of active stocks,  Reach Energy warrant was flat at eight sen, Petronas Chemicals gained one sen, AirAsia X shed one sen to 37.5 sen, Hibiscus Petroleum eased half-a-sen to 29.5 sen and Bumi Armada slid 3.5 sen to 51.5 sen.

The FBM Emas Index fell 13.85 points to 11,410.47, the FBMT100 Index slipped 7.63 points to 11,135.97 and the FBM 70 dropped 64.69 points to 13,114.30.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index gave up 30.74 points to 11,962.50 and the FBM Ace shed 39 points to 4,868.11.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index fell 14.84 points for 14,181.75, the Plantation Index lost 42.57 points to 7,686.47 while the Industrial Index was 9.52 points higher at 3,095.80. ― Bernama
