Bursa ends morning session slightly higher

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia extended earlier gains to end the morning session slightly higher amid fresh positive sentiment due to the firmer oil prices.

The overnight Brent Crude oil price hit a one-year high after Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced his support for a proposal to limit oil output.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,666.4, up 1.08 points, against Monday’s close of 1,665.32.

Market breadth was positive with advancers leading losers 339 to 281, while 405 counters unchanged, 626 untraded and 27 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 662.58 million shares worth RM758.95 million.

Regionally, most Asian markets were mixed as investors digested the latest information from the second presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Among regional bourses, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 1.15 per cent to 23,578.23, Singapore’s Straits Times eased 0.5 per cent to 2,855.77, but Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose one per cent to 17,028.58.

Among heavyweights, IHH Healthcare gained five sen to RM6.55 while TNB and Petronas Chemicals were flat at RM14.36 and RM6.77 respectively.

However, Maybank lost three sen to RM7.67 and Public Bank slipped two sen to RM19.76.

As for actives, Perisai Petroleum and Trive were unchanged at 7.5 sen and nine sen respectively, while AT Systematization added half-a-sen to nine sen.

The FBM Emas Index improved 14.21 points to 12,430.72, the FBMT100 Index earned 13.27 points to 11,465.08 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 15.2 points higher to 12,430.72.

The FBM 70 expanded 36.89 points to 13,753.28 and the FBM Ace gained 5.87 points to 5,144.87.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index improved 5.96 points to 3,131.98, the Finance Index advanced 15.2 points to 14,268.42 and the Plantation Index perked 18.52 points to 7,902.75. — Bernama
