KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Bursa Malaysia rebounded from the lower close yesterday to open higher today, boosted by buying interest in heavyweights led by Maybank and Petronas Gas.
At 9.15am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 3.36 points stronger at 1,673.91 against yesterday's close of 1,670.55.
It opened 4.05 points higher at 1,674.60.
Among heavyweights, Maybank rose four sen to RM7.79, Petronas Gas added 20 sen to RM22.26, Sime Darby increased six sen to RM7.88 and TNB gained two sen to RM14.72.
IHH and Digi were flat at RM6.56 and RM5.01 respectively, while Petronas Chemicals fell one sen to RM6.68.
Of actives, AWC bagged four sen for 78.5 sen, AirAsia X and MMAG were flat at 39.5 sen and 5.5 sen respectively, while AirAsia fell four sen to RM2.93.
"We are of the view that the FBM KLCI would likely end the week on a lower note and closer towards the 1,650 level, with the subsequent support level probably at 1,620. As of now, the resistance levels are set at 1,680/1,700,” Kenanga Research said in a note.
The FBM Emas Index firmed 17.15 points to 11,752.61, the FBMT 100 Index increased 16.93 points to 11,466.64 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 15.68 points to 12,397.29.
The FBM 70 appreciated 7.19 points to 13,582.96, and the FBM Ace was 1.79 points higher at 5,202.94.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index jumped 33.64 points to 14,377.41, the Plantation Index gained 6.15 points to 7,801.13, and the Industrial Index improved 12.32 points to 3,152.33.
Gainers led losers 186 to 92, while 176 counters were unchanged, 1,217 untraded and 14 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 136.38 million shares worth RM63.02 million. — Bernama
