Ringgit ends lower on declining oil prices

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — The ringgit ended lower against the US dollar today, in line with most emerging Asian currencies, due to the declining oil prices, said a dealer.

At 6pm, it was quoted at 4.0105/0165 against the greenback from 3.9925/9965 yesterday.

International benchmark, Brent crude oil, eased 0.24 per cent to US$50.77 a barrel today on lack of fundamentals to support the market, he said.

The ringgit was traded mostly lower against other major currencies.

It fell against the British pound to 5.2698/2793 from 5.2537/2606 yesterday and eased against the euro to 4.5375/5455 from 4.5163/5216 yesterday and was lower against the yen to 4.0017/0093 from 3.9790/9841.

The local unit was higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.9776/9834 from 2.9777/9816 yesterday. — Bernama
