KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — The ringgit closed flat against the US dollar today on lack of catalyst but with continuous demand for the local note, dealers said.
At 5pm, the ringgit was unchanged at 3.9450/9500 against 3.9450/9510 yesterday.
A dealer said the local note remained unchanged after having hit the 10-week high versus the greenback yesterday as government bond prices extended gains after Bank Negara Malaysia’s surprise interest rate cut on Wednesday.
"When compared with other emerging currencies, the local note was trading mostly lower on profit-taking ahead of the weekend,” the dealer said.
Against the yen, the ringgit rose to 3.7242/7306 from 3.7333/7401 yesterday, while versus the Singapore dollar it fell to 2.9335/9381 from 2.9287/9354.
Vis-a-vis the British pound, the local note weakened to 5.2918/2009 from 5.2141/2248 and eased to 4.3935/3007 from 4.3813/3896 versus the euro. — Bernama
