KL shares remain lower at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 ― Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-morning today as traders remained on the sidelines, a dealer said.   

At 11.30am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 6.99 points easier at 1,643.72 from Tuesday's close of 1,650.71, after opening 4.89 points higher at 1,655.60.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 310 to 191, with 257 counters unchanged, 963 counters untraded and 18 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 572.10 million shares worth RM444.02 million.              

A dealer said the local market took que from the weak overnight performance of Wall Street

"Trading activity today is expected to be limited, with many investors still away on an extended Hari Raya holiday break,” he added.

The FBM Emas Index trimmed 49.61 points to 11,464.24, the FBMT100 Index eased 50.62 points to 11,172.30, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index slipped 57.51 points to 12,019.85.

The FBM Ace was in positive territory with a 23.26 points gain to 5,145.91, while the FBM 70 shed 69.78 points to 12,907.14.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Index was down by 28.75 points to 3,102.56, the Plantation Index lost 23.44 points to 7,550.08, and the Finance Index fell 24.82 points to 14,233.84.

For the heavyweights, Maybank eased two sen to RM8.16, Tenaga gained four sen to RM14.08, while Public Bank slipped two sen to RM19.36.

Among actives, Borneo Oil and its warrant (C) rose 1.5 sen each to 18.5 sen and 10.5 sen respectively, TH Heavy lost 2.5 sen to 7 sen, while AirAsia X declined one sen to 38 sen. ― Bernama
