KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar this morning on lack of buying interest for the local currency.

At 9.02am, the local unit was quoted at 4.1480/1570 against the US dollar from 4.1410/1480 at 5pm yesterday.

A dealer said, the US dollar remained steady against most emerging Asian currencies against the backdrop of heightened expectation of a US interest hike soon.

The ringgit was traded mostly lower against other major currencies, except for the British pound.

It fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.0123/0206 from yesterday’s close of 3.0040/0093, slipped against the euro to 4.6404/6509 from 4.6185/6279 and depreciated against the yen to 3.7895/7988 from 3.7683/7757 yesterday.

The local unit, however, improved against the British pound to 5.9810/9944 from 5.9871/9997 yesterday. — Bernama
