Bursa shares rebound slightly at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia rebounded slightly at mid-morning today, prompted by mild buying support for selected heavyweights, dealers said.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.73 points better at 1,628.23 from yesterday’s close of 1,626.50 points.

It opened 0.67 of a point weaker at 1,625.83.

The FBM Emas Index rose 10.70 points to 11,402.15, the FBMT100 Index gained 10.25 points to 11,095.81 and the FBM 70 advanced 6.29 points to 12,923.56.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index dipped 9.71 points to 11,924.52 and the FBM Ace lost 9.34 points to 5,472.16.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index perked 49.55 points to 14,204.12, the Industrial Index declined 6.75 points to 3,089.41, while the Plantation Index was 3.32 points higher at 7,426.99.

Gainers led losers 280 to 275, while 290 counters were unchanged, 866 untraded and 15 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 553.68 million shares worth RM458.86 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank jumped three sen to RM8.26, Public Bank surged 12 sen to RM19.04, TNB was flat at RM13.96, while Petronas Chemicals declined six sen to RM6.52.

Of the actives, O&C Resources slipped 8.5 sen to 56.5 sen, Vivocom Intl eased half-a-sen to 17 sen, while AirAsia added 10 sen to RM2.42 and AE Multi Holdings earned half-a-sen to 15 sen. — Bernama
