He said the acquisition of KLAS, an airport-related ground handling company and a wholly-owned susbsidiary of DRB-Hicom, for RM749.35 million is expected to help Pos Malaysia improve its postal services especially for e-Commerce. “The acquisition would put us ahead of the competition in the provision of end-to-end services to customers, allowing us to better handle international deliveries,” he said. He was speaking to the media after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Pos Malaysia and the Statistics Department today for the development of a comprehensive national postal addressing system. “The online business is currently the main revenue contributor to Pos Malaysia, with 50 per cent of customers comprising online traders who come direct to a Pos Malaysia branch and the other 50 per cent consisting of contract customers,” he said. With the value of e-Commerce in Malaysia in 2014 estimated at RM64 billion or about 5.8 per cent of Gross Domestic Product, the sector is expected to grow from year to year, he said. “Pos Malaysia is the number one courier player in Malaysia with a 30 per cent market share, and we plan to further enhance our networking system,” he said. Mohd Shukrie said revenue from the traditional mail segment declined five per cent in the first quarter of the 2015 financial year with the growth in e-Commerce, adding the company expects to deliver 900 million letters this year, down from 1.2 billion recorded in 2012. ― Bernama
