KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 — The ringgit opened lower against a rejuvenated US dollar today, said a dealer.

At 9.30am, the local unit was quoted at 4.2610/2670 against the dollar from yesterday’s close of 4.2560/2640.

The dealer said the greenback rose on the possibility of a US interest rate hike drawing closer, with the Federal Open Market Committee meeting scheduled for December 15-16.

The local note traded mixed against other major currencies this morning.

It went down against the Singapore dollar to 3.0336/0396 from yesterday’s close of 3.0318/0381, but was firmer against the yen at 3.4892/4955 from 3.4957/5034.

The ringgit also strengthened against the British pound to 6.4512/4624 from yesterday’s close of 6.4572/4719, and gained against the euro to 4.6564/6643 from 4.6714/6810. — Bernama
