PASIR PUTEH, Nov 17 — Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd says the depreciation of the ringgit has not affected its exports of food products and beverages as the company had earlier set the prices with consumer countries.

Marketing Manager Hoay Ling said over 100,000 metric tonnes of Nestle’s products are exported to Indonesia, Abu Dhabi and Europe annually.

“Products such as instant noodles, Milo, chilli and tomato sauce are among our best selling products in the global market as the prices of these products do not change much,” she told reporters at the opening of the Maggi Agricultural Research Centre in Kampung Kulim here today.

Semerak assemblyman (BN) Zawawi Othman officiated the opening which was attended by Farmers Organisation Authority Deputy Director Che Aloha Sulaiman.

Ling said the prices of Nestle’s products have not changed much in the international market as ingredients used to manufacture the products are sourced locally.

“We have entered into a contract with the Bukit Awang Area Farmers’ Organisation (PKK), who have agreed to supply chilli puree to Nestle to make the chili sauce,” she said.

Meanwhile, Zawawi, who is also chairman of the Bukit Awang PKK, said the organisation will supply 300 metric tonnes of chilli puree to Nestle, starting next year.

“We have identified 70 hectares of land for chilli cultivation involving 100 farmers, who are expected to earn a total of RM1.5 million within six months if they use proper farming practices,” he said. — Bernama
