At noon, KL shares slightly lower

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — Bursa Malaysia ended slightly lower at mid-day today on a weak broader market, dealers said.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 2.39 points to 1,720.05, after moving between 1,712.49 and 1,721.05 throughout the session.

British American Tobacco top the gainers’ list, chalking up 80 sen to RM65.58, followed by Nestle, up 48 sen to RM72.

The broader market, however, remained weak with 425 losers and 281 gainers, while 284 counters unchanged, 821 untraded and 19 suspended.

Turnover stood at 822.48 million shares valued at RM632.73 million.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index declined 17.11 points to 11,883.05, FBMT100 Index was 17.181 points lower at 11,551.77 and the FBM Emas Shariah shed 23.12 points to 12,841.53.

The FBM Ace went up 17.69 points to 6,500.24. The FBM 70 eased 23.21 points to 12,841.53.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index edged down 3.23 points to 15,551.88 and the Plantation Index contracted 22.09 points to 7,417.67.

The Industrial Index edged up 5.21 points to 3,181.45.

Among actives, Iris added two sen to 29.5 sen and Denko gained 4.5 sen to 45.5 sen.

GPA, Scanwolf and AWC eased half-a-sen each to 11 sen, 53.5 sen and 41 sen respectively.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank added three sen to RM9.22, Public Bank and Sime Darby earned two sen each to RM19.04 and RM8.46 respectively.

TNB eased two sen to RM12.28 while Axiata was flat at RM6.37. — Bernama
