Bursa Malaysia ends on subdued note

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 — Bursa Malaysia ended on a subdued note today on lack of fresh leads as most players were away on Hari Raya holidays, dealers said.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI finished at 1,724.13, down 2.60 points, after fluctuating between 1,720.02 and 1,735.75 throughout the day.

A dealer said the local market was also dragged down by losses in heavyweights and this affected market sentiment.

On the broader market, gainers led losers by 452 to 318, with 321 counters unchanged, 718 untraded and 11 others were suspended.

Total volume advanced to 1.52 billion units valued at RM1.55 billion from 841.03 million units valued at RM1.03 billion last Thursday.

Of the heavyweights, TNB eased eight sen to RM12.28, Maybank and Axiata were flat at RM9.2 and RM6.37, respectively.

Public Bank gained four sen to RM19.02 and Sime Darby and Petronas Chemicals each added two sen to RM8.61 and RM6.42 respectively.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index decreased 1.64 points to 11,888.80 and the FBMT100 Index contracted 6.44 points to 11,570.96.

The FBM Emas Syariah was 0.62 of-a-point higher at 12,332.42.

The FBM 70 went up 33.64 points to 12,832.48 and the FBM Ace perked 128.04 points to 6,291.60.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index fell 8.09 points to 15,524.41, Industrial Index edged down 3.91 points to 3,187.04 and the Plantation Index eased 9.41 points to 7,495.05 Of the losers, BAT declined 90 sen to RM65.70, Cocoaland fell 37 sen to RM2.03, Hong Leong slipped 36 sen to RM15.46 and IJM went down 20 sen to RM7.0.

Among actives, AirAsia rose eight sen to RM1.36, Frontken inched up half-a-sen to 27 sen and APFT gained one sen to 21 sen.

Main Market volume rose to 1.01 billion shares worth RM1.39 billion against last Thurday’s 547.50 million shares worth RM938.14 million.

Turnover on the ACE Market increased to 293.11 million units valued at RM81.97 million from 110.53 million units valued at RM27.65 million previously.

Warrants improved to 216.25 million shares worth RM75.89 million from 181.74 million shares worth RM68.76 million last Thursday.

Consumer products accounted for 136.67 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (221.37 million), construction (58.51 million), trade and services (392.69 million), technology (74.77 million), infrastructure (10.30 million), SPAC (7.21 million), finance (49.45 million), hotels (931,700), properties (44.75 million), plantations (4.56 million), mining (1000), REITs (9.67 million), and closed/fund (6,000). — Bernama
