KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — Malaysia’s consumer price index in June rose 2.5 per cent from a year earlier on higher food prices, data from the Statistics Department showed today. Transport prices also saw an increase from a month ago.

June’s inflation rate was slightly above economists’ median estimate of 2.4 per cent in a Reuters poll.

Inflation has gradually accelerated since a six per cent consumption tax went into effect in April. — Reuters
