KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia closed lower today, dampened by losses on Petronas Chemicals, AMMB Holdings and UMW, dealers said.
At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI finished at 1,712.3, down 4.75 points, after moving between 1,708.64 and 1,718.03 throughout the day.
Petronas Chemicals shed 33 sen to RM6.07, AMMB lost 16 sen to RM5.70 and UMW fell 22 sen to RM10.02.
A dealer said the local stock exchange performance was in tandem with regional peers, triggering talks of an overdone sell-off in risk assets after Greece’s rejection of austerity.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index decreased 37.03 points to 11,794.93, the FBMT100 Index shed 35.859 points to 11,485.49, the FBM Emas Syariah contracted 45.81 points to 12,245.66 and the FBM 70 fell 54.51 points to 12,715.09.
The FBM Ace climbed 8.47 points to 6,183.59.
On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index reduced 59.66 points to 15,393.32 while Plantation Index rose 21.55 points to 7,441.79 and the Industrial Index was higher by 14.55 points at 3,172.09.
Market breadth was negative with losers thumping gainers 465 to 315, with 300 counters unchanged, 719 untraded and 21 others suspended.
Total volume rose to 1.69 billion units valued at RM1.72 billion from 1.54 billion units valued at RM1.41 billion.
Of heavyweights, Maybank and Sime Darby eased four sen each to RM9.15 and RM8.53 respectively and Public Bank fell eight sen to RM18.72.
Axiata added one sen to RM6.38 while TNB was flat at RM12.62.
Among actives Scan and Jaks eased 1.5 sen each to 10 sen and 82 sen respectively, and KNM slipped half a sen to 58.5 sen.
Vsolar added one sen to 12.5 sen while Frontken was flat at 26 sen.
Main Market volume rose to 840.16 million shares worth RM1.47 billion from 806.53 million shares worth RM1.21 billion yesterday.
Turnover on the ACE Market expanded to 339.68 million units valued at RM76.74 million against 273.10 million units valued at RM66.94 million.
Warrants advanced to 511.78 million units worth RM180.31 million against 463.20 million units worth RM134.24 million.
Consumer products accounted for 78.2 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (239.37 million), construction (53.83 million), trade and services (311.3 million), technology (31.4 million), infrastructure (15.25 million), SPAC (7.58 million), finance (35.96 million), hotels (762,700), properties (37.32 million), plantations (12.08 million), mining (10,000), REITs (17 million), and closed/fund (42,400 million). — Bernama
