Gas Malaysia to be financially neutral amid natural gas tariff revision
Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — Gas Malaysia Bhd said that it would be financially neutral following the revision of natural gas tariff for non-power sector in Peninsular Malaysia, effective July 1.

The company informed Bursa Malaysia today that the average gas tariff would be revised to RM21.80 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) from RM19.77/MMBtu previously.

Gas Malaysia said that the revision was made by the government yesterday.

“This takes into account the increase in the purchase price of gas that Gas Malaysia procures from Petronas,” it said.

Gas Malaysia noted that the selling price for residential customers or Category A remained at RM19.52 per MMBtu, while for average annual gas consumption of up to 600 MMBtu or Category B, the rate would fall to RM20.30 per MMBtu from RM21.00 per MMBtu.

Meanwhile, the other categories saw an upward revision in tariff.

For Category C or for those with consuming average of between 601 and 5,000 MMBtu annually, they have to pay RM20.40 per MMBtu; and Category D or 5,001 - 50,000 MMBtu at RM20.60 per MMBtu.

For Category E or 50,001 - 200,000 MMBtu and Category F or 200,001 - 750,000 MMBtu, the consumers have to pay both category at RM21.50 per MMBtu, respectively.

For the last category, Category L or consumption of above 750,000 MMBtu annually, the consumers have to pay RM22.22 per MMBtu.

The last natural gas tariff revision was effective May 1, 2014, with the average changes of RM16.07 MMBtu to RM19.32 MMBtu.
