KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed higher supported by consistent buying activity in selected heavyweights, dealers said.
At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 7.80 points to 1,749.17 after hovering between 1,743.12 and 1,750.68 throughout the day.
Nestle and Kuala Lumpur Kepong were the top two gainers as the trading ended, rising RM1.50 and 92 sen each to RM72.50 and RM22.38, respectively.
Gainers outpaced losers 444 to 358 while 307 counters were unchanged, 702 untraded and 20 others suspended.
Total volume slipped to 1.48 billion units worth RM1.99 billion, from 1.73 billion units worth RM2.15 billion recorded on Tuesday.
A dealer said regional bourses were traded on a mixed note today as investors remained cautious over the economic uncertainty in Greece.
He said there were also bargain-hunting activities in certain markets in the region due to overselling of shares.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank, TNB, Public Bank and Axiata gained 2.0 sen each to RM9.16, RM13.40, RM18.56 and RM6.36, respectively.
Among actives, Nexgram eased half-a-sen to 11 sen and KNM fell one sen to 55.5 sen, while Connectcounty added 1.5 sen to 25.5 sen and Vsolar earned half-a-sen to 15.5 sen.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index increased 54.02 points to 12,138.39, the FBMT100 Index expanded 53.81 points to 11,810.04, the FBM Emas Syariah Index jumped 107.79 points to 12,685.78 and the FBM 70 perked 65.34 points to 13,364.44.
The FBM Ace, however, was 3.85 points weaker at 6,629.07.
The Finance Index fell 22.18 points to 15,516.86, but the Industrial Index went up 19.89 points to 3,227.13 and the Plantation Index surged 109.35 points to 7,468.56.
Main Market volume decreased to 950.86 million shares worth RM1.83 billion, from 1.18 billion shares worth RM1.99 billion recorded on Tuesday.
Turnover on the ACE Market rose to 395.60 million shares worth RM113.09 million, from 377.17 million shares valued at RM109.14 million previously.
Warrants depreciated to 129.27 million shares worth RM46.20 million, from 166.61 million shares valued at RM51.72 million yesterday.
Consumer products accounted for 96.67 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (239.74 million), construction (38.60 million), trade and services (326.72 million), technology (56.77 million), infrastructure (23.02 million), SPAC (19.23 million), finance (55.62 million), hotels (1.31 million), properties (68.77 million), plantations (19.82 million), mining (2,700), REITs (4.60 million), and closed/fund (nil). — Bernama
