KL shares lower at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — Bursa Malaysia was lower at mid-morning dampened by losses in selected key heavyweights, dealers said.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.49 point lower at 1,740.83.

Telecommunications companies Axiata and Maxis fell 16 sen to RM6.63 and four sen to RM6.70 respectively, while oil and gas-based company Petronas Chemicals lost 12 sen to RM5.25.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index fell 0.44 point to 11,995.40, the FBMT100 Index eased 0.426 point to 11,714.88, the FBM Ace slipped 0.41 point to 5,973.33 and the FBM 70 inched down 0.15 point to 13,116.87.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index slipped 0.07 point to 15,558.84, the  Industrial Index was 1.19 points lower at 3,150.86 and the Plantation Index was down 1.05 points to 7,947.78.

Market breadth was negative with losers outpacing gainers 397 to 187, while 238 counters were unchanged, 895 untraded and 11 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 417.25 million shares worth RM361.34 million.       

Of the heavyweights, Maybank added one sen to RM8.90, TNB went up by two sen to RM13.62 and Public Bank was flat at RM18.16.

Among actives, PW Hang Seng lost three sen to 89.5 sen while Pasukhas, Datasonic and Minetech were half a sen lower at 24.5 sen, eight sen and nine sen respectively. — Bernama
