KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 ― Malaysia's unemployment rate in August 2014 declined marginally to 2.7 per cent from 2.8 per cent in the previous month, the Statistics Department said.

In a statement on the “Labour Force Statistics Malaysia” today, it said the year-on-year comparison showed a lower unemployment rate of 0.4 percentage point at 3.1 per cent in August 2013.

The labour force participation rate declined to 67.1 per cent in August as compared to 67.4 per cent in the previous month.

“The drop of 0.4 percentage point is a continuation of the decrease of population in the labour market by 0.4 per cent, particularly those from the younger age group of 15-19 years,” the department said. ― Bernama
