MELAKA, Sept 8 — Malaysia Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp) aims to contribute RM48 billion to Malaysia’s Gross National Income by 2020 and draw investments worth RM50 billion through its Bioeconomy Transformation Programme (BTP).

BiotechCorp Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Mohd Nazlee Kamal said by then 170,000 new high-quality job opportunities would have been created by the biotechnology industry.

“To date, more than 100 shortlisted trigger projects have been identified with almost 50 per cent or 50 projects launched through five BTP workshops,” he told reporters after the launch of the BTP Central Region Workshop by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

“It is targeted that 50 projects, worth between RM10 billion and RM20 billion, will take off through this workshop,” said Mohd Nazlee.

He said BiotechCorp would set up a database for companies interested in venturing into the biotechnology industry and also look into the downstream aspects of the industry. — Bernama
