KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished higher today, helped by buying interests in selected heavyweights.
The key index rose 4.34 points to 1,869.21 after moving between 1,860 and 1,869.21 throughout the day.
However, market breadth was negative with losers outpacing gainers 430 to 390 while 352 counters remained unchanged, 453 untraded and 30 others suspended.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank and Public Bank increased two sen each to RM10.16 and RM19.18 respectively while Sime Darby and Maxis added one sen each to RM9.49 and RM6.51.
CIMB was flat at 7.28, TNB declined six sen to RM12.34 and Axiata shed two sen to RM6.92.
Total volume rose to 2.51 billion shares worth RM2.11 billion from 2.99 billion shares worth RM2.104 billion yesterday.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index jumped 15.55 points to 17,453.29, Industrial Index advanced 15.57 points to 3,251.66 and the Plantation Index rose 73.23 points to 8,623.04.
The FBM Emas Index was 23.95 points higher at 13,025.04 and the FBMT100 Index appreciated 23.6 points to 12,614.69.
The FBM 70 increased 4.75 points to 14,250.76. The FBM Ace decreased 21.52 points to 6,885.08.
Among active counters, Globaltec edged up half-a-sen to 10.5 sen, Luster Industries added one sen to 11.5 sen, Wintonie Group was flat at 8.5 sen and Sumatec trimmed one sen to 45 sen.
The Main Market volume decreased to 1.749 billion units, worth RM1.988 billion, from Wednesday's 2.14 billion units worth RM1.965 million.
Turnover on the ACE Market eased to 713.42 million shares, valued at RM120.15 million, from 819.10 million shares valued at RM133.51 million recorded yesterday.
Warrants appreciated to 49.80 million units, worth RM6.218 million, from 28.05 million units, worth RM3.303 million, registered yesterday.
Consumer products accounted for 170.05 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (450.08 million), construction (96.329 million), trade and services (663.6 million), technology (71.15 million), infrastructure (13.03 million), SPAC (92.47 million), finance (41.24 million), hotels (3.271 million), properties (116.93 million), plantations (19.897 million), mining
