KL shares close higher on last-minute buying

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed higher today, lifted by last minute buying, dealers said.

At the close, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) perked 3.3 points to 1,875.68.

The market barometer moved between 1,868.48 and 1,875.68 throughout the day.

Dealers said the local stock market was mostly in red throughout the day before last minute buying pushed the benchmark index to its highest level for the day, taking advantage from the recent weak performance.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index jumped 49.229 points to 17,505.19, the Industrial Index improved 2.13 points to 3,259.89 and the Plantation Index expanded 26.63 points to 8,596.58.

The FBM Emas Index was 4.93 points higher at 13,058.75, the FBMT100 Index chalked up 14.32 points to 12,641.21.

The FBM 70 decreased 14.63 points to 14,214.7 and the FBM Ace erased 67.19 points to 6,919.7.

Losers led gainers 589 to 275 while 294 counters remain unchanged, 479 untraded and 30 others suspended.

Total volume rose to 3.01 billion units worth RM2.2 billion from 2.63 billion units worth RM2.4 billion on Wednesday. — Bernama
