KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today on improved demand for the local unit. 

At 9.06am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.1600/1630 against the greenback from 3.1615/1635 at 5pm yesterday. 

The local unit also traded higher against other major currencies except for the Japanese yen. 

The ringgit declined against the yen to 3.0390/0431 from yesterday’s 3.0387/0418 and appreciated against the British pound to 5.2374/2427 from 5.2415/2460 yesterday. 

It advanced against the euro to 4.1687/1733 from yesterday’s 4.1729/1761 and gained against the Singapore dollar to 2.5266/5294 from 2.5286/5306 yesterday. — Bernama
