Malaysia’s FDI equity inflow into India amounts to RM1.72b

NEW DELHI, July 23 ― Malaysia's foreign direct investment (FDI) equity inflow into India between April 2000 and May 2014 amounted to US$543.04 million (RM1.72 billion), said Minister of Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman.

Investments have been received from Malaysian companies in various sectors including construction development: township, housing, built-up infrastructure and construction-development projects.

The top five sectors that have attracted equity inflows from Malaysia during April 2000 and May 2014 were non-conventional energy US$312.72 million, construction development US$74.02 million metallurgical industries US$64.61 million (RM204.9 million), services sector US$54.9 million and power US$36.79 million.

Nirmala said this in a written reply in Parliament here today.   

She also said that India and Malaysia had agreed to target a bilateral trade volume of US$15 billion by 2015. ― Bernama
