Bursa KL opens lower on losses in heavyweight counters

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower this morning, dampened by losses in most heavyweight counters, dealers said.

At 9.26 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 4.22 points lower at 1,888.4 after opening 1.85 points higher at 1,894.47.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index increased 23.66 points to 17,513.51, but the Plantation Index dipped 26.98 points to 9,200.86 and the Industrial Index slipped 12.18 points to 3,261.52.

The FBM Emas Index shed 19.65 points to 13,152.51, the FBMT100 Index declined 20.8 points for 12,756.93, the FBM Ace erased 8.63 points to 6,788.99 but the FBM 70 rose 6.02 points to 14,460.53.

Market breadth was negative as losers led gainers 220 to 141 with 255 counters unchanged and 1,020 untraded, including 20 others which were suspended.

Turnover stood at 224.6 million shares worth RM177.37 million.

Among actives, Sumatec Resources added two sen to 33 sen, Malaysia Building Society climbed 14 sen to M2.48, OSK Holdings fell four sen to RM2.24 while Mexter Technology was flat at RM1.25.

Of heavyweights, Maybank improved two sen to RM10, Public Bank dipped six sen to RM20, CIMB lost four sen to RM7.20 but TNB was flat at RM12.46. — Bernama
